The True Meaning of Christmas

Snowman

I had already posted a blog for Christmas day when this amazing thing happened and I just had to write about it.  Twelve years ago when we moved to Blackburn Hamlet we knew we had found a wonderful place to live.  When we had children this was definitely reaffirmed.  But what happened today really touched our hearts.

I took the children for a walk this morning in the beautiful snowfall.  We were on a nearby street when I decided to see if the snow would hold together if I rolled it.  We started rolling a big ball of snow, the kids laughing happily.  When it got really big we stopped by the side of the road.  My son decided we needed to make a full blown snowman so we did, leaving it in front of a random house.  We call it a drive by snowman-ing.  We carried on our merry way with me asking the children if they thought the people who lived there would be happy when they found it.

We went out this afternoon to visit some friends and upon returning we found a packet in the mail box. We opened it, and along with some sweet treats this is what we found.

We were so touched by the fact that a family we barely know in passing would take the time to do such a wonderful thing.  It literally brought tears to my eyes.  We put the reindeer food out in little bowls knowing that it will add to the magic of Christmas day for the kids.

For us this is what community is all about.  To the amazingly thoughtful family that did this, thank you so much.  You literally made our Christmas right then and there.  We are very fortunate to live in such a great neighbourhood.  Merry Christmas to all.
